Abstract

Cement is one of the main causes of CO2 emissions in the industry. Studies have shown that 1 ton of cement emits 1 ton of carbon dioxide from burning calcium carbonate during industry. To reduce CO2 emissions, efforts are needed to develop environmentally friendly construction materials. Many researchers studied the using of different materials. Such as silica fume and different pozzolanic materials as a cementitious materials . In this research, the issues of environmental and economic concern are addressed by using Palm fronds ash and red brick powder as replacement of cement in concrete. The concrete specimens were tested for compressive, splitting tensile, and flexural strength at different ages. The effect of the elevated temperatures (200,400, and 600oC for 2 hours), cooling methods (air- water) were studied, then tested in compressive and splitting tensile strength. Replacing red brick by Palm fronds ash as a binder at the same type of curing increase the compressive strength. Under elevated temperature, the compressive strength increased at 200oC and 400oC but at 600oC the compressive strength collapsed.
