Abstract

The current work aims to reduce pollution resulting from textile printing, overcome the problems of using synthetic colorants, synthetic thickeners, and synthetic fabrics on environmental balance and human health, and replace traditional printing techniques by using silver nanoparticles.Eco-friendly natural dye (madder dye) and the natural thickener (tamarind thickener) are used to create a natural printing paste with a suitable viscosity for printing protein fabrics by flat silk screen printing. In this work, three different methods for treatment of protein fabrics were used; pre-treatment, simultaneous treatment, and post-treatment with nano-silver material that was synthesis at different concentrations (800, 600, 400 and 200 ppm). Color strength K/S values, fastness properties, tensile strength and elongation, Ultraviolet protection factor (UPF), and microbial protection were measured on fabric samples. Also, examination by SEM and TEM has been occured. The results showed that the K/S values of treated samples were higher than that of the original samples.  All treated fabrics have high fastness values for washing, perspiration, rubbing, and lightfastness in addition to highly increase in the tensile strength of fabrics. The incorporation of these nanoparticles in the structure of the protein fabrics makes the final product antimicrobial surface. The UPF values of all the treated printed fabric samples were higher than those of the blank ones.
