Abstract

Grasshoppers are considered a serious pest attacking almost all the important economic crops. One of these injurious insects is the grasshopper Heteracris littoralis, which has a particular economic importance in Egypt. Treatment of nyphal stage with both precocene II and pyriproxyfen induced many histopathological changes in the ovary. In the germarium, the oogonia and the prefollicular cells showed degeneration, vacuolation and pycnosis. Vitellarium was also severely affected. Follicle cells were degenerated and vacuolated with pycnotic nuclei. Most of the oocytes were degenerated and vacuolated with pycnotic nuclei. Wide empty space was formed between those cells and the contracted ooplasm. As a result, follicle cells might arrange in more than one layer around the oocyte. Most of the oocytes were degenerated with vesicles filled with electron-dense material. Follicle cells showed degeneration, vacuolation and pycnosis. Electron dense materials were observed filling the intercellular spaces at the germarium after the treatment with pyriproxyfen
