PHYTOCHEMICAL STUDY OF MURRAYA EXOTICA L. CULTIVATED IN EGYPT II- COUMARINS OF THE LEAVES

Abstract

Five coumarins were isolated from the methylene chloride fraction of the methanol extract of the leaves of Murraya exotica L. cultivated in Egypt and identified as; (±) erythromurranagatin, (-) minumicrolin, Murralogin, 7-methoxy-8(2`-hydroxy-3-ethxy-3-methyl-butyl) coumarin and murraxocin. The identification and structure determination are based on physical, chemical and spectral studies including UV, IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR and MS analyses. Three of them were shown to be either enantiomer to known derivatives or new. The other two coumarins were identified as murralongin and murraxocin. The antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities of the isolated compounds were studied.
