Abstract

Salvadoside; sodium (1-O-benzyl-b-D-glucopyranoside-2-sulfate) [1], a recently isolated sulfated glycoside from the Egyptian plant Salvadora persica L. used in the treatment of gastritis in folk medicine, has been synthesized in four steps from glucose. The route adopted also allows regioselective synthesis of structural isomers of the target compound.
