Abstract

The novel Tiempo de silencio, by Luis Martín Santos, reflects the post-war Spanish society of the late 1940s. In previous studies, researchers and critics have focused their studies on the language, style, interior monologue, irony, the theme of poverty, and the characters in the play. But, they have not paid much attention to the ideological parallelism or the number of points of view present in the text. These last two elements form our objective of the present study. At first glance, we notice that the Basque author uses various literary resources in his narrative such as digression, irony, parody, etc., in order to bring to the surface the different speeches that appear in the story, such as the literary speeches, national and historical. The novelist presents different perspectives and points of view, between multiple thematic and stylistic approaches, in his fiction.
