The occurrence of the 9/11 attacks marked the sharp rise of the public narrative of Islamophobia in the US and the West. This backlash against Islam and Muslims came about as a consequence of a media campaign led by Fox News and the far-right media outlets, which represent the conservative socio-political agenda. This media campaign has employed translation in its negative representation of Islam and Muslims. Hence, this research applies the analytical framework of the narrative theory to a sample of Fox News episodes that include translated Islamic items such as Qur'anic verses, Sharia Law rules, and Prophet Muhammad's Hadith in order to investigate the role of translation in this negative representation of Islam. The research applies the features of selective appropriation, temporality and relationality as they are developed by Baker (2006), being part of the narrative analytical framework.
