MANGEMENT OF MODERATE PERIODONTITIS BY USING OF TEA TREE OIL: A RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED CLINICAL TRIAL

Abstract

Introduction: Conventional periodontal therapy is an effective line of treatment for the moderate periodontitis patients. By using tea tree oil as locally delivered agent in moderate periodontitis patients.
Objective: The present work aims to assess the clinical improvement for patient with moderate periodontitis before and after intra pocket application of TTO gel.
Materials & Methods: A clinical trial was performed, a total number of thirty pockets in thirty patients, with moderate periodontitis. They were classified to control group which comprised fifteen patients treated with scaling and root debridement only and test group which comprised fifteen patients treated with previous treatment and local delivered sustained release TTO gel. Clinical parameters measured: depth of the pocket, clinical attachment level and bleeding upon probing were evaluated from baseline examination to
3 months follow up.
Results: In the evaluation period (after 3 months), the studied clinical parameters showed lower levels in test group in comparison to control group.
Conclusion: The locally delivered of TTO gel in conjunction with conventional periodontal treatment in moderate form of periodontal inflammation is more effective than the conventional periodontal therapy alone.
