External Funding Bodies for Scientific Research in Egypt: A bibliometric study

Abstract

The study seeks to identify the most external funding bodies for Egyptian literature. A total of 15,762 Egyptian articles, funded by external funding bodies, published between 2009 – 2018 were collected from the Web of Science database. The result shows that GRF (DE), NNSFC (CH), and NSF (USA) are the most funding bodies for faculties of science researchers. The materials science, physical chemistry and interdisciplinary chemistry is the three most funded subjects in faculties of science. Regarding medical colleges, it was found that NIH (USA) are followed by NIHR (UK), the most donor agency in this sector, and the topic of oncology and ophthalmology is the most funded subject in this sector. As for the colleges of pharmacy, NIH (USA), GRF (DE), and JMECSST (JP) are considered the most donor agencies for faculties of pharmacy researchers. The topics of pharmacy, pharmacology, medical chemistry and biochemistry are the most funded topics in this field. While NSERCC (CA), NNSFC (CH), and NSF (USA) are the most funding bodies for engineering faculties researchers. Electrical engineering, materials science, and civil engineering are the most subjects funded in this specialty. The JSPS (JP), JMECSST (JP) and NIH (USA) are the biggest donor agencies for veterinary colleges researchers, and subjects of veterinary sciences, biochemistry, food technology and sciences have been ranked in the foreground of funded subjects. With regard to colleges of agriculture, the NNSFC (CH), USDA, and DAAD (DE) are the three largest donors for researchers in faculties of agriculture. The subjects of Plant science, food science and technology, and agriculture dairy & animal science are the most three funded subjects in faculties of agriculture
