Book social media networks and its role in readers and writers support. A field study of Goodreads Network usage as a model.

Abstract

The study has dealt with the use of both Egyptian readers and writers of
the services and capabilities of book social media network: Goodreads. Also the
benefits and advantages that returned to the study community of those who are
interested in reading and writers as a result of these services and capabilities,
through editing 2 questionnaires: one for the readers and the other for the writers.
Both of the questionnaires were available on the pages and groups interested in
books and writers .
The notable results of this study concerning readers were that 300
individuals of the participants don't have accounts on Goodreads Network, which
represents a percentage of 50.5%, and the main cause for not having an account
on Goodreads Network is the lack of enough information about it, and this was
what represented a percentage of 91.3%. And 292 individuals have accounts on
Goodreads Network, Which represents a percentage of 49.5%.
The most important reason for creating a reader's account on Goodreads
Network was the benefit of book recommendations by friends, which represents a
percentage of 82.8%.
About the writers study community, the study has revealed that the
number of writers who have author's accounts is 17 which represents 45.9%. And
the interaction with readers to know their opinions about their books and the
books by others represented a percentage of 37.8%.
