Library services usually aim at helping users to overcome problems caused by the information explosion. The present study aims at exploring the services that the Central Library of Ain Shams University provides to its community, and evaluating the strengths and the weaknesses of such services. Reasons of users' reluctance to using this library are explored. Paths for developing a state of the art library system in this university are outlined. A higher committee of library and information services is recommended. Different professional groups should be represented in this committee. Human and technological resources should be provided. Modern information services should be considered. Presentation and maintenance facilities for manuscripts and rare materials also should be provided. A legal system tor handling theses and dissertation, taking into account copyright requirements is needed.
