تتمتع بيلوزيوم بأهمية خاصة کونها محطة تاريخية رئيسة على مر العصور، ويتناول البحث تحديدًا بيلوزيوم في القرنين الرابع والخامس الميلاديين؛ حيث کانت تلک الحقبة من تاريخ مصر مليئًة بالأحداث التي تستحق الوقوف عندها بالرصد والتحليل. وقد اقترن جزء من تاريخ بيلوزيوم في تلک الفترة باسم القديس إيزيدورس البيلوزي، الذي ترک مجموعة من الرسائل يمکن من خلالها وضع تصورًا عامًا للحالة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والدينية والسياسية والتعليمية لبيلوزيوم في تلک الفترة، وذلک بعد الترجمة لحياة القديس إيزيدورس البيلوزي ودراسة المسرح الجغرافي، مع الأخذ في الاعتبار أن تاريخ بيلوزيوم يعد جزءًا أصيلاً من تاريخ مصر تحت الحکم البيزنطي في العصر البيزنطي الباکر، مع الاعتماد على المصادر الأدبية الدينية المعاصرة للأحداث للمقابلة وتوضيح بعض التفاصيل. Being a major historic milepost over the ages, Pelusium is of particular significance. This paper focuses mainly on Pelusium in the fourth and fifth centuries A.D., especially the fifth century A.D in Egypt that was full of important events that are worthy of notice and analysis. Part of the history of Pelusium in this century was associated with the name of Saint Isidore of Pelusium who left a collection of messages through which a general overview of the social, economic, religious, political, and educational status of Pelusium during that period could be offered. Taking into consideration that the history of Pelusium is an integral part of the history of Egypt under the Byzantine rule in the Early Byzantine era, this overview will be presented through the biography of Saint Isidore of Pelusium, the geographical theatre, and the reliance on literary Christian sources that are contemporary with the concerned events for the sake of comparing and clarifying some details.
