Abstract

Seasonal abundance of 18 species of the genus Aphytis Howard (Hymenoptera : Aphelinidae) from Egypt were observed on ten host plants infested with eleven armored scale insect species (diaspidids) in seven governorates between 1997 and 2000. Results indicate that some species (e.g. Aphylls holoxanthus DeBach. Aphytis melinus DeBach and A. paramaculicomis DeBach & Rosen) had effective rates of parasitism on the population of Chrysomphalus aonidum, Aonidiella aurantli and Pariatoria oleae (Colvee), respectively. The highest rates of parasitism were 70.9, 66.4 and 57.0%. respectively. This groups was followed by Aphytis lepidosaphes Compere, Aphytis paramculicomis De Bach & Rosen, Aphytis chrysompjali (Mercet), Aphytis lingnanensis, Aphytis diaspidids (Howard), Aphytis libanicus Traboulsi and A. phoenicis Do Bach & Rosen with maximum parasitism rates of 59.2, 57.0, 41.4, 43.2, 29.3. 28.6 and 20.4. respectively. The rest of studied Aphytis spades, maximum parasitism rates were between 0.8 and 14.6%.
