The research aims at studying the current situation of the economics of wheat in Egypt including production, consumption, import, gap and self sufficiency rate during the period 1995 – 2011 where Egypt is considered one of the highest wheat importing countries. Such a situation represents a load on the Egyption commercial balance. For this reason Egypt conducts several efforts to increase the cultivated area and productivity of wheat crop in order to reduce the size of wheat gap and increase the wheat self sufficienty. Inspite of such position, Egypt still produces less than 55% of its needs and imports the r e st from abroad . The study revealed that there is a decrease in the value of geographical concentration coefficient which it dates back to the actual distribution of Egyptian wheat imports coming from a large number of countries with a different quantities and prices. The wheat gap represents a big load on the Egyptian commercial balance and how we increase the cultivated area in the desert new lands where the local wheat production is not compatible with the demand due to the increase in population. The study dealt with the future propects of wheat during (2014- 2018) which revealed that there is an expectation of the rise of the size of wheat gap in the future to 9.51 million ton in 2018.
