Abstract

The study of tombstones is one of the important studies in Islamic and Coptic archeology; because of the history of any monument is identified from its foundation text. The gravestones in the Islamic world spread from Turkestan eastward to the Atlantic Ocean to west. The tombstone was known by many names in the Islamic world (the tile, the painting, the tombstone), as in the west of Islamic world (Andalusia), Egypt has been characterized by a large number of tombstones. In this context, the aim of this paper is publishing and studying Coptic tombstones that were written in Arabic inscription for the first time (dating back to the first third of the twentieth century), followed by a comparative analysis and descriptive approach, The researchers studied the evidence descriptive according to the chronological order, by clarifying the dimensions and quality of materials that were used in the manufacture, sculpture methods and dates. As for the analytical study, the research will deal with the form, calligraphics, and the decorations of tombstone, the religious contents, titles, the functions and others furthermore it will compare them with other similar tombstones in two parts, the first part of the research includes the publication of these tombstones and commentary on the content of writings on them, while the second part will include the study of decorative elements and the method of calligraphy on them.
