أدي الكشف عن الاحتياطيات الضخمة من الغاز الطبيعي الذي قامت به هيئة المسوح الجيولوجية الامريكية عام 2010 في حوض شرق البحر المتوسط، الذي يعتبر ثاني أكبر احتياطي غاز طبيعي في العام، الى تسارع دول المنطقة لتعيين حدودها البحرية، حيث قامت مصر بتعيين حدود المنطقة الاقتصادية الخالصة مع كلا من قبرص 2003 واليونان 2020، بالإضافة الى توقيع اتفاقية اطارية لتقاسم الموارد الهيدروكربونية بين مصر وقبرص 2013، حتى تتمكن مصر من استكشاف واستغلال الموارد الهيدروكربونية في منطقتها الاقتصادية، حيث تحاول الدراسة تسليط الضوء على الابعاد الاقتصادية في مجال الطاقة لتعيين الحدود البحرية المصرية. The discovery of huge reserves of natural gas carried out by the US Geological Survey in 2010 in the era of eastern Mediterranean basin, which is considered the second largest natural gas reserves in the year. This agreement  led this  countries to determine their maritime borders, as Egypt set the boundaries of the exclusive economic zone with Both Cyprus 2003 and Greece 2020, in addition to the signing of a framework agreement to share hydrocarbon resources between Egypt and Cyprus 2013. As result of that Egypt can explore and exploit hydrocarbon resources in its economic zone, where the study attempts to shed light on the economic dimensions in the field of energy to determine the Egyptian maritime borders.
