A semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data on socio-demographic characteristics, women`s knowledge regarding anemia, and adherence to iron supplements. Anemia was determined by measuring hemoglobin (Hb) levels, with a level of less than 11 g/dl being considered anemic. Results: This study included 238 pregnant women, 44.1% of subjects were anemic with a mean hemoglobin level of 10.56±1.48 g/dL. The prevalence of anemia among pregnant women living in rural areas was 51.3% compared with 37% living in urban areas. There was a highly statistically significant difference in women`s knowledge regarding anemia among both groups, (p < 0.001).Conclusion: Anemia has been constituting a severe public health burden in Egypt with a prevalence of 44.1% among pregnant women.
