Abstract

The paper spots the light on the origin of the Cave-Shrine in ancient Egypt: how it
appeared in the Pharaonic period, disappeared, and reappeared in the Byzantine
period in the so-called the Cave-Church. The researcher classified the Cave-churches
founded in Egypt into four categories.
