هدفت هذه الدارسة إلى التعرف على مدى ممارسة التخطيط الإستراتيجي في الجامعات السعودية من وجهة نظر رؤساء الأقسام؛ حيث إستخدم الباحث المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، فقد تم إختيار أفراد عينة الدراسة بشکل عشوائي من مجتمع الدراسة والمکونة من جميع رؤساء الأقسام في ثلاثة من الجامعات الحکومية السعودية (جامعة الملک عبدالعزيز في جدة، وجامعة الملک خالد في ابها، وجامعة الملک فيصل في الاحساء). حيث إشتملت العينة على 137 رئيس قسم. وقد إستخدمت الإستبانة کأداة لجمع البيانات والمعلومات المطلوبة. وخلصت الدراسة إلى مجموعة من النتائج أبرزها أن ممارسة  عملية التخطيط الإستراتيجي تُشکل عنصراً مهماً ومحوراً رئيساً من محاور الجودة الواجب تطبيقها في مؤسسات التعليم العالي (الجامعات السعودية). يحيث تُعد رؤية الجامعة ورسالتها وأهدافها محوراً لهويتها، بما في ذلک أنشطتها التربوية وجسمها الطلابي ودورها في إطار مؤسسات التعليم العالي (الجامعات السعودية)، بالإضافة الى ان هناک قصور بمکونات ومعايير ممارسة عملية التخطيط الإستراتيجي (مدخلات، مخرجات) الذي وضحته محاور الدراسة. بالاضافة الى عدم وجود برامج تحفيزية وعدم مساهمة الخطة الإستراتيجية فى تقوية الروح الوطنية لدى رؤساء الاقسام. کما أوصت الدراسة بعدد من التوصيات من أهمها أن يتم تأهيل رؤساء الأقسام للمارسة عملية التخطيط الاستراتيجي ويکونوا من ذي المؤهلات العلمية العليا في مجال التخطيط الاستراتيجي.  بالإضافة الى عدد من المقترحات على سبيل المثال لا الحصر: العمل على إيجاد معايير ممارسة التخطيط الإستراتيجي للجامعة واشتراط توافر شواهد وبراهين لممارسة الجامعات الحکومية السعودية بشکل خاص والمؤسسات التعليم العالي بشکل عام لها.   The extent of the practice of strategic planning in Saudi universities from the point of view of department heads Case Study: (King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, King Khalid University in Abha, King Faisal University in Al-Ahsa) Abstract This study aimed to identify the extent of the practice of strategic planning in Saudi universities from the point of view of the heads of departments; where the researcher used the descriptive analytical method, the sample of the study was randomly selected from the study population consisting of all heads of departments in three Saudi public universities (University King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah, King Khalid University in Abha and King Faisal University in Al-Ahsa). The sample included 137 department heads. The questionnaire was used as a tool to collect the required data and information. The study concluded with a number of results, most notably that the exercise of the strategic planning process is an important element and a major axis of quality to be applied in higher education institutions (Saudi universities). The university's vision, mission, and objectives are central to its identity, including its educational activities, its student body and its role within the framework of higher education institutions (Saudi universities), in addition to the limitations of the components and standards of the practice of strategic planning process (inputs, outputs), which were explained by the study axes. In addition to the lack of incentive programs and the contribution of the strategic plan to strengthen the national spirit of the heads of departments. The study also recommended a number of recommendations, the most important of which is to qualify department heads to practice the strategic planning process and be of the highest scientific qualifications in the field of strategic planning. In addition to a number of proposals, including but not limited to: Work on the criteria for the practice of strategic planning of the university and the requirement of evidence and evidence of the practice of Saudi public universities in particular and institutions of higher education in general.
