Abstract

When Robert pinsky,s book of poems sadness and happiness appeared in 1975 it received overwhelmingly positive reviews and was appreciated as much for its manner as for its matter as an urbane and stylish verse the likes of which had not been heard since the passing of randall jarrel about adecade earlier. Hayden Carruth admired the public dimension of the poems.
