Abstract

The efficiency of eight compounds representing different chemical groups
was evaluated against the Cilf1J8 lealrnlner P. curellarval population on navel orange
trees. At Ihe recommended rates, the tested compounds suppressed the level of
infestation to different degrees according 10 the nature 01 the compound, the rate of
use and the lime elapsed after spraying. As an average of the two sprays, three weeks each, A. cyhalothrin, as a
potent pvrethroid. was tne most effective compound giving 73.7% reduclion, followed
by the mixture of abarnectin of Kz-oil (71.5%) and than chlorpyrifos methyl (59.0%).
This e'ioctive group was constcered as {he first category of the tested compounds. The second category Includes: Kz-ou. pyriproxifen • Kz-oll aM azatio. Toey
oisplayed moderate eHects amounted to 47 , 44.7 and 43.0% reducLion in inlastabon
IllrOligh the two sprays. respecOvely. The remaining products (ovrnevozine and oio-
dux) may be regarded as ineffective i() reduc.ng the leafminer incidence under the
prevailing experimental conditions. The biore siduat activity of the tested compounds, even with the potent pyrethroid, did
net exceed more than rwo weeks (for \he bosl cases). Thus, the frequent application
would be necessary. particularly when non traditional compounds wers used. The efficiency of the treatments was evaluated by visual estimation of Infested or non-
jr.(ested leaves, Intensity of Iarval lnlestation and ths iarval vitality. The present results clarify that assessment of the test compound using a certain
criterion does not conniet with other criterta. Despite of offering more accurate and
retiable data by the tast two criteria, the order of insecticidal efficacy by vsu19 the three
rested criteria seems to be almost similar.
