SUSCEPTIBILITY OF SOME STORED GRAINS AND WHEAT FLOUR TO INFESTATION BY THE MAIN INSECT PESTS AT ALEXANDRIA GOVERNORATE

Abstract

This study was carried out during the period from December 2008 to December 2009 at Alexandria Governorate. The product samples were obtained from General Soils and Agriculture Credit Bank. Eight species, belonging to two orders; Cleoptera and Lepidoptera and only five families were recorded on wheat, wheat flour, yellow corn and barley. The survey revealed about seven species of Clepotera and one species of Lepidoptera. This situation of these insects as pests in Egypt or other parts of the world, the effect of sample site inside or outside of G.S. and A.C.B and monthly distribution of insect infestation are considered and discussed for each insect in each product. The recorded data showed that the lowest infestation rate occurred at barley and yellow corn. But, the highest infestation rates were at wheat followed by wheat flour.
