TwO baby carrot varieties,Le., Babette and Mini express were ~Ianted at the
Experimental Research Farm,Faculty of Agriculture, Suez Canal University during
199912000 and 200012001 seasons, 10 study Ihe eHect three potass iurn fertilizer
levels, i.e, 0.0, 150 & 300 kg. Ifed.on growth characters, total yield and its
components and storageability of carrot roots
Results showed that, Mini express cv was higher than Babette S': in weight of
whole plant and root fresh weight . While. Babette was higher than Mini express
variety In root length. Mini express was smaller than Babette in core diameter, core
diameterl root diameter ratio and dry mailer content. Increasing potassium fertilizer
levels from (150 to 300 kg,lfed,) increased foliage height, weight of the whole plant
,root fresh weighl , root weighVplant weight rallo, root length .root diameter, core
diameter , core dlarneter /root diameter ratio as well as dry matter content. So high
potassium fertilizer level i.e. 300kg.lfed. decreased fiber content whlc means high
quality of baby carrot roots . Potassium fertilizer up to (300kg.tred.) produced the
highest total whole yield ,total root yield ,net weight percent, marketable yield and
markelable rool ratio.
In II10rageabaity study Babette variety being higher In appearance lhan Mini
express variety. Also, Babette variety lended to be higher than Mini express in
carotene content and vitamin A .In spite of that there were no significant diHerences
between both of the tested varieties in weight loss, reducing and total su~ar content.
Addition potassium fertilizer up to (300kg.lfed.) ,resulted in lowest weight loss
percent ,as well all decay percent and texture value that means (good root quality).
