Wheat is consider to be one of the important goods for most of countries in
the world, since that the Saudi govemment trying to reach the safelY level of food
security by keeping the strategic level (rom the wheat and flour depending on the local
production and increasing the level of self sufficiency from those produc s. The seventh plan (2000·2004) targeted making balance betwren water and
food security, so that the Saudi government planning to make a new strategy fop
wheat production, and estimating the targeted levels for wheat produc₁ tion and flour
consumption. The results shows lhat the loss of nour was very small becaus~ of population
Increasing, so there consumption by about 2Kg. Moreover, ttre planted 4re84 last year
and the le'lel of supporting prices as perC8ntage of the world prices' I are mportanl
constraint that affecting the planted areas this year. Finally, the study expecting increasing In the tolal wheat production by about
0.23% for the period (2003·2010) also, there Is a differenC8S change between the
actual and targeted level of consumption of nour by about 6% for the period (1974·
1998).
