Abstract

The agricultural sector in Egypt is highly concerned about increasing organic
agriculture areas cultivated by numerous field crops to obtain clean and safe
production nationally used or to be exported. Also, to promote farmers to use organic
cultivation and not using chemical fertilizing and herbicides in agriculture to decrease
environmental pollution levels and decreases and to increase agricultural exports
enhancing national economy and realizing sustainable development. The study aimed for estimating organic cultivation and comparing it by
chemical cultivation to give reasons for diversing from chemical cultivation towards
organic cultivation. Also, this study is looking for organic cultivation development and
the increase of its area from year to year as it reached about 26.2 thousand feddan
year 2002 and will be about 35.30 thousand feddan in year 2010. Thus in case of
fixing yearly increasing rates of organic cultivated areas and stay surrounded
producing circumstances it is with out any change. The organic cultivated field crops
take part of about 41 % of the total area, while vegetable, medical and aromatic plants
and fruits extirpating about 28%, 24% and 7% respectively of total organic cultivated
area, and the rest is cultivated by other plants. The study indicated significant increase of area, productivity, cost and net
return for cotton organic cultivated in adverse of chemical cultivation. Average net
return of feddan reached about 2888 L. E. for organic cultivation and about 1085 L. E.
chemical cultivation. For summer potato crop organic cultivated, it was found that the area,
productivity, cost net return were increased during the study period (1992- 2002). as
net return per feddan reached 3635 L. E. for organic cultivation and about 3081 L.
E.lfeddan for chemical cultivation. Despite of many problems faced agricultural exports, but Egyptian exports
from organic cultivation in the last years were increased as exports from organic
cotton reached on average about 4211 quencherl year and about 4.8 thousand ton
per organic summer potatoes. The study terminated to the importance of increasing
the organic exports due to high organic yield prices in international markets and useful
of tariff decrease for exports to Europe. The study recommends increasing organic cultivation area of different crops
beside trained farmers, and offering encouragement to those using organic cultivation
such as delivering them by efficient information about international markets. This in
additior. to obtain clean and safe yield for local use and exporting.
