The study aims to determine the extent of perception of agricultural and area
extension agents of principles of agricultural extension programs in Talkha District El-
Dakahlia Governorate and its relationship with each of the following variables: age,
period of education,working period since entry to agric. working period in agric.
extension, availability of teaching and communication means, work difficulty, work
transport facilities, and training on program implementation.
The data were collected from the population of 120 respondents, classified
into two categories: 96 Area Extension Agents and 24 Agric. Extension operators at
villages, using an interview questionnaire during July and August 2003.
Frequencies, percentages distribution. averages. standard deviations, simple
correlation were the main statistical tools used for describing and analyzing the
collected data.
The results of this study revealed that:
Age average was 38.63 years, 67.5% respondents have agric. secondary school
diploma, whereas 32.5% have B.Sc. in agric science. 96.7% of respondents received
low training on Extension Programs, however, 70.8% of them are looking forward to
be trained in that field. 60% of respondents have no means of transport to and from
their locals, magazines of agric. extension. posters, leaflets are available to the
majority of the respondents as extension methods and means .
- 81.7% of respondents have low perception for principles of agric. extension
programs.
- Positive correlations were existed between the respondents perception of
principles of agric. extension program as a dependent variable and each of:
period of work to agric. Extension, period of education, availability of extension
methods and means, work difficulty. and training on program implementation as
independent variables.
