There is a growing concern in many countries with regard to public health and
the negative environmental effects of the use of chemical such as fertilizers,
insecticides, pesticides and others It is important therefore, to produce agricultural
products under certain environment conditions. In Sinai Governorate, ecological agriculture clean agriculture, has been
successful in the terms of economical production of some medicinal and aromatic
plants; like Origanum and Sage in EL Sheikh Zowayed Zone. The objective of the present research is to investigate economic and
environmental aspects of the production of some medicinal and aromatic plants in
Sheikh Zowayed Zone at Sinai Governorate. The study used primary data of a sample of about 40 farms the results
showed that labor, phosphate , manure and number of nurseries were the most
important factors affecting production of medicinal and aromatic crops. The economical evaluation of the study indicated that the yields per
Fadden of ecological agriculture system of these plants are about 968 and 2150 k.g
for Origanum and Sage respectively. The results indicated that the estimated
production and cost functions are in the stage of increasing returns to scale that a
sum of production elasticity for inputs are more than the value of one, The study determined the optimum sizes to be about 1340.92 and 2757.6
k.g per Fadden for Origanum and Sage respectively, but the maximizing profit sizes
are about 1584 and 3246 k.g per Fadden respectively.
