Abstract

The microbial population as well as the sou enzymes activities was recorded In
four different ecosystems in Egypt with a wide nnge of heavy metal concentrations
The metal oncentrations were ranged between 126.22 to 3555.42 mg kg" dry sou
(As. Cd. Cr, Cu. Ni, Pb and Zn). The total rnicroblal population express as bacterial.
yeast and fungal counts, C02 evaluation. nitroqenase activity, soil enz. rnes acuvities
were determined The results a out microbial biomass detected II at the counts were lower in
moderate and high polluted soils. The high reduction in the enzymes activities were
closely paralleled with the increase in the concentrations of heavy metals detected in
