Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to determine if probiotic (Protexin) supplementation to drinking water at different levels (1.0, 2.5 and 5.09 {Litter of drinking water) would have a beneficial effect on immunological and hematological parameters of weaning rabbits. Fifty six, 5-week old New Zealand White rabbits (NZWJ weighing an average of 5809 were divided into four groups ( 14 rabbits each). Rabbits of group 1 received plain water. Rabbits of group 2, 3 and 4 received water supplemented with 1.0, 2.5 and 5.09 ProtexiniLitter of drinking water, respectively The rabbit houses were made of available local materials (mud, wood et....).The study was conducted during fattening period, from 5—1 3 weeks, from February to April 2004 Obtained results showed that Protexin supplementation at 2 59 {Litter level improved significantly (P5005) hematocrit values (Hi 96), hemoglobin concentrations (Hb gl'dl), total protein value (TP gidl), albumin value (Alb gidl), albuminrl globulin ratio (AlblGIob %). Aspartate and alanine aminotransferase (ASTaALT mil) and alkaline phosphatase levels (AIR—P IUJI) were also improved. However supplementation of 5.09 ProtexinfLitter improved globulin value (Glob gldl). No significant differences between treatments were observed in creatinine levels (Cr mgidi). However, a significant reduction in urea nitrogen values (UN mgidl) was observed compared to the control group. All the immunological parameters were improved due to protexrn treatments. Significant increase in lymphocyte percentages. and white blood cells counts (wees 103 fmm3) were observed at the 259 ProtexiniLitter level. Improvement in humorai immune response (1R) at 2.5 and 5.09 ProtexinlLitter levels and cell mediated immunity (CMI) at the 5.09 ProtexinfLitter level   were observed. It can be concluded that supplementation of (Probiotics) Protexin at the 2.59 Protexin/Litter level improved hematological parameters. The 5.09 ProtexiniLitter level showed a great role In enhancing the immune system
