FOOD SECURITY ANALYSIS OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AGRICULTURAL FOOD COMMODITIES IN THE STATE OF KUWAIT

Abstract

Food security is the state's ability to secure the necessary food resources to feed the population in a manner that meets the basic necessities of human growth and preservation by providing a stock of food that can be resorted to in the event of disasters or shortages in food production. Food is obtained through local production. The local supply of production and then completing the rest of the population's need by importing from abroad using foreign trade in order to raise the percentage of important food commodities in relation to the quantity required for consumption. The study shows that the most important commodities that the study studied production and supply of and the percentage of self-sufficiency of them are red meat (cows, sheep and goats) ), poultry meat, milk, fish, vegetables and eggs during the period from 2001 -2018as showing improvement in the proportion of food security in the red meat and a surplus of eggs and declining food security in poultry, fish, vegetables and stability in the milk due to the role of foreign trade in bridging the need of those goods and increased commodity supply Conclusively, the research recommends the need to expand foreign trade, especially export operations, because of its great importance in solving the problem of food security in the State of Kuwait
