THE KNOWLEDGE LEVEL FOR AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION AGENTS IN PREEDING MULBERRY SILKWORMS IN SOME GOVERNORATES EAST DELTA DISTRICT

Abstract

The present study aims at determining the knowledge level of agricultural extensionists in regarding to achivities and practicies related to Berry Bom by breeding moril in addition to investigating major problems and obstacles facing rural people and young breeders of berry. The study was investigated in Sharkia and Ismailia Governorates, as they are major regions in that activity in east Delta. The selected sample has reached 177 Obervations. Which were randomly selected from both governorates; 102 observations from Sharkia and 75 from Ismailia.
           The selected sample was collected through April-Gune, 2006 via a direct interview. A pre-test was developed on about 25 observation to check the question aire validity and accuracy.
           Statistical analysis methods used in the present study are tabulation, frequencies, percentages, and weighted average. Results of the present study indicate that an obvious shortage in training courses offered to agricultural extensionists in general farm activities, especially in Berry-Silk breeding activities, that lack in knowledge reached about 56.87% and 42.16% in Sharkia, and Ismailia governorates, respectively. Results of the present study indicate that some obstacles are facing Silk-Berry breeding and the related technical activities. Such as insects and other infections. The study has concluded some recommendations to encourage planting of berry trees and raise the knowledge level of agricultural extencionists in that respect.
