Abstract

Two seasons trials were carried out in vitro, during 2005 and 2006 seasons, to investigate the individual and combined effects of different dose of gamma radiation and some degrees of temperature under light or dark conditions, as well as soaking in various concentrations of dinitro aniline for different time on seed germination and growth characters of the resulting plantlets of cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.). The obtained results indicated that the 7.5kr. gamma radiation produced the highest records of (G %), number of branches and leaves, under light or dark conditions. Incubating cumin seeds at17ºC resulted the largest (G %) or shoot length, but the number of leaves, branches and root length were the largest at 10ºC, at dark or light conditions.  Whereas, the lowest records occurred due to the 20kr radiation or the 32ºC temperature. Soaking cumin seeds in the 1.0 and 4.0mg/L dinitro aniline, gave the highest G% and leaf number respectively; while the longest roots resulted by soaking seeds in 4.0 or 15.0mg/L dinitro aniline, but the more number of branches and shoot length were produced by the control (0.0% dinitro aniline). The best time of soaking for G% number of branches and shoot length was 2, 4 and 8 days; while the longest roots resulted due to the 12 days soaking. The combinations between every best factor gave the best results and was recommended.
