Abstract

Objectives: The complex nature of the root canal morphology of primary teeth and consistency of the available obturation materials make it difficult to achieve optimum obturation. The ideal obturating technique should ensure a good apical seal without any underfilling or overfilling. This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of three different obturating material using for pulpectomy in primary anterior teeth according to the amount of materials was extruded beyond the apex.
Material and methods: This study was undertaken on (36) teeth indicated for pulpectomy, divided into, 12 children for pulpectomy / Metapex group and 12 children for pulpectomy / Metapex / AGS group, and 12 children for pulpectomy / Metapex / Colla Cote group. All groups evaluated by the criteria for success.
Results: Metapex and Metapex/ Colla Cote group, at immediate all primary anterior teeth showed the materials was extruded beyond the apex. While at three months follow up all materials that extruded beyond the apex were resorbed. Metapex/ AGS group, at immediate and three months all primary anterior teeth did not extrude beyond the apex.
Conclusion: The addition of AGS to Metapex considerably alters the viscosity of the material, which in turn decreases the tendency of Metapex to extrude beyond the apex.
