Abstract

Over the two past decades, climate change and its effects turned into loud debate between both private and governmental sectors towards decreasing green house gases. In the USA, a study for live cities took place for 40 cities that represent about 83 millions population to investigate how GHG can be reduced to 7% compared with carbon concentrations of 1990. They suggested that this issue can be handled by more transportation alternative, collective and cumulative rather individual, increasing ground green coverage, improving energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality. However, this come to the point that investigated themes are all under the umbrella of sustainable development, this has been compiled into the initiative called Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, LEED. In Egypt, the green code for architecture and its rating system, the Green Pyramid Rating System GPRS, along with the code for reducing energy consumption in buildings is all big steps towards sustainable built environment in Egypt.
