Abstract

ABSTRACT
In this paper, a finite element model has been proposed to analysis the response of isotropic and anisotropic beams subjected to different mechanical loads. The assumed field displacements of the beam are represented by simple first order deformation theory, the Timoshenko beam theory. The equation of motion is derived using the principle of virtual work. A hermit cubic shape function is used to represent the axial displacement u, the transverse displacement wis represented by a quadratic shape function, whereas the normal rotation x is represented by a linear shape function. The shear correction factor is used to improve the obtained results. A MATLAB code is constructed to compute the natural frequency, the static deformations, and the stresses on the structure due to the applied loads at different boundary conditions. The obtained results of the proposed model are compared to the available results of other investigators, good agreement is generally obtained.
