Background: Although there have been conflicting results, several subsequent clinical trials have demonstrated a higher rate of fatty liver and NASH in H. pylori -positive patients compared to HP-negative patients; in addition, small trials examining the effect of H. pylori eradication have shown improvement in markers of NAFLD activity, further supporting a link between these two conditions.
Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the relation of H. Pylori infection with Non Alcholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD).
Methods: This study is a case control study carried out at outpatient's clinics of El Mahalla El Aam Hospital from November 2017 till May 2018, Subjects were classified into two groups: One hundred patients with NAFLD who attended outpatient's clinics of El Mahalla El Aam Hospital, Group (A) (case group): Included 50 patients with NAFLD (diagnosed by ultrasonography). Group (B) (control group): Included 50 subjects (diagnosed by ultrasonography) who will serve as a control group.
Results: There was a statistical significant difference in Hp results between group I and group II groups, with significant Ag positive-Ab positive to Group I, and there was no statistical significant differences in US grades of NAFLD according to HP Ag or Ab results.
Conclusion: Our study was display a significant increase in MPV in patients with NAFLD. The burden of H. Pylori infection among NAFLD patients was noticeably high, in comparison with the healthy control group.
