Abstract

The current research aims to study the competitive position of the onion crop during the period (2003-2018) in the most important export markets and to analyze the structure of Egypt's exports of onion crop. Egypt enjoys a high comparative advantage for its exports of onions, with an average of about 24.93 during the study period, which indicates that there is an opportunity to expand and increase Egyptian exports of onions to the world. By studying the geographical distribution of Egyptian exports of onions to various countries, Saudi Arabia ranked first in terms of quantity and value of exports, followed by the Russian Federation. By studying the market share, Egypt ranked fourth, as the average amount of their exports during the study period was about 449.55 thousand tons, representing approximately 6.10% of the average world exports of onions during the average of the same period. The estimation of the index (Market Penetration) of Egyptian onions in these markets revealed their ability to increase Egyptian exports thereof to those markets. It was also evident from the study (Relative Price) the strength of the competitive position of Egypt's exports of onions in facing Mexico, China, and the Netherlands due to the high value of the relative price factor in those countries of 100. At the same time, it indicates the weak competitive position of Egypt's exports of onions in front of India, where it reached. The value of the factor for that country is about 94%.  By studying the ability to meet export requirements index, the results show that Egypt ranks fourth in terms of the number of its onion exports as an average for the same period. By studying the efficiency index of export operations performance, it was revealed that the Netherlands comes first in terms of the efficiency of the performance of the export process with a rate of about 0.056 %, Followed by Egypt in second place, with a percentage of 0.052. Through the statistical assessment of the demand functions for Egyptian onions in the most important import markets, it was found that the most important factors explaining the external demand functions are between each of the exported quantity of the crop in a thousand tons as a dependent variable on the one hand and between the independent variables, the Egyptian export price is $ / ton, the amount of imported state imports of onions Other countries include one thousand tons, the population is one million, the gross domestic product is in one million dollars for the importing country, the global export price in dollars, the total Egyptian production is one thousand tons, the amount available for Egyptian domestic consumption is one thousand tons, the Dutch export price is $ / ton, the Mexican export price is $ / Ton, Indian export price $ / ton, China export price $ / ton.
