Abstract

Background: A significant upper extremity condition impacting 1 in 50 people is rotator cuff tendinopathy; with age, the incidence increases, causing a regular musculoskeletal complaint in adults over 65 years of age. Shoulder pain and fatigue are correlated with severe morbidity, impacting everyday life, leisure, and working life.
Objective: To assess the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma injection in the treatment of rotator cuff tendinopathy.
Patients and methods: From September 2018 till March 2020, twenty patients were treated by injection of single PRP in subacromial space for chronic rotator cuff tendinopathy. Preinjection and postinjection visual analogue scale (VAS) and constant Murley score were obtained to assess pain and function.
Results: The visual analogue scale showed no significant improvement from 5.5 to 5.4 and constant Murley score from 66.9 to 68.8.
Conclusion: Single PRP injection in the subacromial space for rotator cuff tendinopathy therapy shows no significant improvement at reducing pain or improving function.
Keywords: Rotator cuff tendinopathy, platelet-rich plasma.
