استهدفت الدراسة تسليط الضوء على أثر تداعيات انتشار فيروس كورونا على قطاع السياحة في مصر، وهو ما يعد أحد الصدمات الاقتصادية الخارجية على الاقتصاد المصري من خلال الإيـرادات الدولارية من السياحة، واستهدفت الدراسة اختبار فرضية أساسية مفادها وجود أثرٍ مباشر وغير مباشرٍ لتداعيات انتشار فيروس كورونا على قطاع السياحة في مصر، ومن ثم انتقال الأثر إلى الناتج المحلي الإجمالي، وتوصلت الدراسة إلى أن انتشار فيروس كورونا دفع بتباطؤ حركة التجارة الدولية المنظورة وغير المنظورة، وكان الأثر بالغًا في القطاع السياحي، ما دفع بتراجع الاحتياطي النقدي الأجنبي من جهةٍ، وتباطؤ معدلات النمو في الناتج المحلي الإجمالي من جهةٍ أخرى خلال الفترة من 2010، وحتى 2020، وجاء اختيار عام 2010؛ لمقارنة الآثار الناتجة عن تداعيات كورونا بعام يتسم بالاستقرار النسبي، واختيار عام 2020، نتيجة للتغير جراء انتشار فيروس كورونا.
