Abstract

Virgin females of   Attagenus
fasciatus,
(Thunberg) produce a sex pheromone. The females begin pheromone
release at 5-10 days age and the release continues with the same level at all
older ages. Male response is associated with pheromone release. The pheromone
is released after 50-80 minutes from the onset of the photophase (12:12 L:D)
and continues for 4.5 hr. with a peak level after 2 hr and 50 minutes for one
and half hour. Starvation does not affect either pheromone release or male
response. Mating   strongly reduces
pheromone release.
