يتناول البحث الإطار التاريخي والثقافي لبترونيوس في حياة الکاتب الساخر بترونويس الذي عاش في روما في القرن الأول الميلادي حيث کان المجتمع الروماني في عصره آخذًا في الإنهيار بسبب القتل والخراب الناجم عن حمام دم الحرب الأهلية، ثم بسبب مظاهر المتعة والإسراف الزائدة عن الحد. وقد وردت في رواية الساتيريکون (والذي قام بتأليفها بترونيوس) أمثلة عديدة تتحدث عن مظاهر الترف التي عاشها الرومان في القرن الأول الميلادي وعن سمات الحياة الإجتماعية والسياسية التي کانت موجودة في تلک الفترة التاريخية. ويرکز البحث المقدم هنا على معرفة الظروف السياسية والاجتماعية التي أثرت على الکاتب بترونيوس وعلى عمله الساتيريکون مع التعريف بالکاتب وما تقلده من مناصب سياسية وإجتماعية، ومعرفة مدى تعبير مؤلفه الساتيريکون عن ظروف عصره السياسية والإجتماعية والدينية التي کانت تعيشها روما في القرن الأول الميلادي في ظل حکم الإمبراطور نيرون. : The research deals with Historical and cultural framework of Petronius, who lived in Rome in the first century AD, where the Roman society in this time was collapsing because of the murder and destruction caused by the bloodbath of the civil war, and then because of the manifestations of excessive pleasure. Numerous examples of the luxury of the first century AD and of the social and political life that existed in that period are described in the Satyricon (written by Petronius). The research presented here focuses on the political and social circumstances that influenced the author Petronius, and then talks about his work "Satyricon" with the definition of the writer and his political and social positions, and finds out how much the author of the Satyricon presented the political, social and religious conditions of Rome in the first century under the reign of Emperor Nero.
