نتيجة لشهرة نبات السيلفيوم الواسعة، تم خلط الحقيقة مع الخيال والأساطير فيما يتعلق بهذا النبات. وقد بدأ الباحث بتحليل الوصف العام للسيلفيوم وتحدث عن العديد من الأسماء التي أشارت إلى هذه الشجرة وجميع أجزائها. وظهر الوصف العام لهذه النبات، وطريقة زراعته، في أعمال ثيوفراستوس وبليني الأصغر. ويبدو أن بليني يصف ويترجم المعلومات التي قدمها ثيوفراستوس بالضبط.  وقد ذکر بليني أن ظهور هذه الشجيرة أصبح نادرًا جدًا في القرن الأول الميلادي، وغالبًا، حسب رأيه، بسبب الدمار الذي قام به جامعو الضرائب.

Over the course of human history, the fame of Silphium has reached the greatest amount and as a result of this fame, its truth was mixed with fiction and mythology, it became a myth of the ancient world.
The researcher began by analyzing the general description of the silphium and talked about the many names that referred to this tree and all parts.
From formal description and cultivation of Silphium in Theophrastus' and Pliny the younger's works, it is noted that the most of Pliny's report was as Theophrastus', in their works, there are all details and confusion about some aspects of the plant.
 It seems that Pliny describes and translated the information given by Theophrastus exactly, Pliny began talking about the shrub, saying , it became very rarely in the first century A.D. and often, in his view, because of the destruction done by tax collectors.
Pliny added that in his time, the shrub was considered to be of high prestige and was sold at the price of silver; it was also kept in the public treasury in Rome with gold and silver. The importance and fame of the plant are especially dependent on the beneficial medicinal properties and in the multiple sections referred to this.
