Abstract

Background: Breastfeeding self-efficacy is an important motivating factor that influences
breastfeeding success. Aim: To evaluate the effect of antenatal educational sessions on
primigravida women's breastfeeding knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy. Study design:
A randomized controlled trial was conducted on 60 breastfeeding women (30-intervention
group and 30-control group). Three tools were used for data collection: a structured
interviewing schedule, the Iowa Infant Feeding Attitude Scale, and the Breastfeeding Self-
Efficacy Scale–Short Form. Results: The intervention group exhibited higher knowledge
scores, infant feeding attitude scores, and breastfeeding self-efficacy scores as compared
with the control group, with highly statistically significant differences. Conclusion:
Antenatal educational sessions exerted significant positive effects on the knowledge, attitude,
and self-efficacy of the intervention group regarding breastfeeding. Recommendation:
Implementing educational workshops to improve pregnant women's self-efficacy regarding
breastfeeding
