Evidence-Based Using Mobiles Health- Education to Improve Quality of Life among schizophrenic’ Patients

Abstract

Background: There is increasing interest in using mobile technologies such as smart
phones for improving the care of patients with schizophrenia. However, less is known about
the current clinical evidence for the feasibility and effectiveness of smart phone apps with
schizophrenic' Patients. Aim: The current study was to evaluate evidence-based on using
mobile health- education to improve quality of life among schizophrenic' patients. Design: A
quasi-experimental design. Subject: A purposive sample which included 120 schizophrenic
patients was selected. Setting: This study was conducted at Abbassia governmental hospital
for mental health and addiction treatment at Cairo city. Tools: Two tools were used for data
collection (pre/post); Tool 1): Structural interview questionnaire to assess characteristics of
schizophrenic patients and their medical history. Tool 2): The World Health Organization
Quality of Life is used to assess the patient's quality of life. Results: The present study
revealed that the mean age patients are 39.94± 9.45.There is a statistically significance
relation levels of quality of life, regarding their socio-demographic data of schizophrenic
patients p < 0.05. Conclusion: Majority of schizophrenic patients pre intervention; have low
level of quality of life and improved after implementation of a mobile health- education
program also, there was statistically significant relation between total quality of life with
psychological diseases associated with schizophrenia and number of relapse among
schizophrenic patients. Recommendations: enhancement the QOL for schizophrenic
patients and providing educational program about how to use of mobile in health education
for both the patients and their families. In addition Improving of educational programs for
psychiatric nurses and other health care providers in psychiatric hospitals by increasing
levels of their knowledge and practice that would help schizophrenic patient to improve
quality of life,
