Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the main stressors experienced by haemodialysis patients and the effect of counseling on their reduction. It covered 40 haemodialysis patients at the Renal Dialysis Unit of Moubark Hospital in Tanta. The patients' sociodemographic and medical data were collected using an interview schedule and a haemodialysis stressor scale was developed to assess the patients' stressors before initiating and after completing a counseling intervention (one hour twice weekly for one month). The findings revealed that counseling was effective in reducing all physiological stressors and most of the psychosocial ones except social relation, cost factor and job interferences.
