Abstract

The hearing threshold levels [HTL] have been evaluated for normal males [n = 1650], aged 6-60 years, who are free from any ENT or hearing disorders in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia [KSA]. The hearing norms at the different audiometric frequencies are higher than those of the English, but mostly equivalent to those of the Americans; however, are considerably lower than those reported from the developing countries: Nigeria and Egypt, particularly of the old age group. This might be attributed to the favourable socio-economic status of KSA, as one of the oil-rich developing countries, as well as to the favourable personal and ecological factors of the population there.
