Abstract

This study investigated patients and their families [caregivers] toward their adherence related to medical regimen items. During hospitalization, 386 ischemic heart patients and their families [caregivers] were interviewed in the Intensive Care Unit, Tanta University Hospital. Three instruments were used for collection of data, namely: socio-demographic characteristics and medical data, Miller Attitude Scale [MAS], and Health Intention Scale [HIS] and Health Behavior Scale[ SBS]. The results showed that there was no statistical significant difference in patients attitudes toward the areas of medical regimen [taking medication on time, control of physical activity, eating healthy diet and control of hypertension]. Patients intentions and performance correlated negatively in the areas of medical regimen [smoking, activities, and control of stress]. Family intentions and patients' performance correlated negatively with areas patients' adherence to their regimen in smoking, activities, medication, and control of stress. Health education program was developed and offered to all subjects in this study in order to help them to comply of the areas of the medical regimen after rehabilitation period.
