Abstract

A hundred and forty - 12 weeks old Gimmizah chicken were used to study the effect of contaminated diets with levels of lead as lead acetate [Pb] [200, 300, and 400 ppm/kg of diet] and levels of aluminum [Al] [200, 300, and 400 ppm/kg of diet] as aluminum sulfate. A group of birds fed diet without Pb or Al as a control group. Both Al and Pb were added to corn-soy diets and fed to birds from 12 to 19 wk of age. Feeding 400 ppm Pb or Al decreased [P<0.01] body weight gain of birds by about 20% than control group. The addition of 300 and 400 ppm Pb to the diet decreased [P<0.05] moisture of thigh than control. Pb concentration in meat [raw and after cooking], bone, and kidney tissues increased [P<0.01] by increasing the level of Pb while concentrations were approximately the same with the three levels of Pb. Cooking slightly reduced Pb concentration residue in both meat and liver. The concentration of Pb in the liver and brain were the highest while meat had the lowest concentration compared with the other tissues. On the other hand, feeding 400 ppm Al decreased significantly [P<0.01] body weight gain of birds than control group. Addition of 300 and 400 ppm Al to the diet increased [P<0.05] fat percentage of thigh than control group. Concentrations [ppm/g tissue] of Al residue in meat and liver [row and after cooking], bones, and kidney tissues increased [P<0.01] by increasing the level of Al while concentrations were approximately the same with the three levels of Al. Cooking slightly reduced concentration Al in meat and liver. On the other hand, bone had maximum concentration of Al and meat had the lowest concentration, liver, Brain and kidney had approximately the same amount of Al.
