A Study of Research Utilization in Nursing Practice; Is It Paed infe Applicable?

Abstract

The development and utilization of nursing knowledge are essential for continued improvement in patient care as well as the client's quality of life. The aim of this study is to estimate the gap between research findings and its utilization in practice. This study was conducted during the period starting from September 2002 to the end of August 2003, i.e., 12 months for data collection. Setting: this study was conducted in Menoufiya University; [1] University Hospital and MCHC [2] Faculty of Nursing.. The sample consisted of two types: [1] Nurses sample; a random sample of 100 nurses working at University Hospital in different specialties and MCHC [2] Academic faculties from Faculty of Nursing sample; all academic faculties who finished their Master degree in nursing [50] were selected. Tools: I. a structured questionnaire for staff nurse. II. The barriers Scale; for staff nurse. III. A structured questionnaire for academic faculty staff. The main results of this study are: • All staff nurses in the study think that they are not informed about results of nursing research and technology. • 40% declare that they are interested in the topics of research. • Two-thirds of staff nurses are unaware of or unwilling to read research reports.
