Abstract

Intestinal parasitic diseases constitute the most frequent infections in the world. Unhygienic personal habits predispose preschoolers to the risk of intestinal parasitic infections. The study provides a scheme on the prevalence of intestinal parasitic infections, predisposing factor, and its allied effect among preschool children in Mansoura City. Mothers' knowledge and health practice toward prevention of intestinal parasitic infection were assessed. Also stool examination was done to detect intestinal parasitic infection among preschooler. The study revealed that 69.7% and 6.6% of the studied preschoolers suffered from Entamoeba hostolytica, Giardia lamblia, and Enterobius vermicularis, respectively. This high prevalence of intestinal parasitic infection among preschoolers, resulting in anemia among 27.5% of them and it is statistically correlated to the lack of knowledge of their mothers about parasitic infection and poor health practices.
